RIAA Powerpoint Presentation

Check out this Powerpoint presentation delivered by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This presentation gave me a lot of mixed feelings as I read it, and it took a while to figure out how I felt about it. It's distressing because RIAA obviously has a lot of information at their fingertips. They understand what their customers want, how they feel, how they percieve the music industry, where sales are going and how piracy works. But that doesn't seem to be their main interest.

What RIAA is really worried about, is public opinion. They want to control the public's perception of illegal downloading and sway people's opinion and behavior to a more marketable one. What this ends up being is politics. The record industry is acting like someone how is running for a political position.

What worries me is that they may be doing a good job. This has nothing to do with what customers want, this is about changing what customers think they want.
