Proximity Lab

[Media: Website]

Normally I find that most projects that mix technology, art and social experiments to be flaky and boring, but the Proximity Lab seems pretty interesting. This is a project I would actually be very excited about implementing at school in the computer science department.

By using RFID tags, inserted into special slippers, users can interact with the board and eachother as images are displayed on the floor's surface. A major part of the experiment is that the behavior of the system isn't explained to the users, and so the people trying it out have to experiment to figure out how it works. It's interesting that most adults wouldn't try it out until it was explained to them, while younger people, especially children were often quite eager to try it out.

Check out the "trailer" available on the site, it's pretty interesting.
