Cloud: The Game
Kotaku pointed out the game Cloud, which is a free download and has been developed through donation by EA games. I'm not one to try out free games off the Internet, I usually don't have much time to play the videogames I've paid for, let alone free ones. But this game is remarkably different.
There are those people who say that videogames are not art; I'm looking at you Roger Ebert. There are a couple of examples of videogaming which I would use to counter that perception, such as Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari Damacy, and finally Cloud.
In Cloud, you are a sick child living in a Hospital who is tired of the Hospital walls, the food and the medicine. Longing to go outside, the child daydreams that he can fly through the sky with the clouds. In his dreams, this child is free. As you float through the sky you collect bright white clouds to be your friends (that is their term, and I love it). I've only played a couple of levels, but I am already a fan. The second level required that I collect as many clouds as I could, absorb them and then create a lollipop out of the collected clouds.
The game has incredibly beautiful music and artwork, and it is reminiscent of Katamari Damacy. Even if you don't have the time or the interest in playing this game, I encourage you to take a look at the game trailer, which is beautiful in its own right, to get an impression of what the game is like.
This game gets my highest recommendations.
